Usage Date: September 16, 1864
Usage Location: Louisville, KY

Recipient: Mr. E. C. (Edward Cross) Maynard

E. C. Maynard was born May 14, 1810, in Northlew, West Devon Borough, Devon, England.  He had four sons and one daughter. and it appears three of his sons may have served in the Union Army (John G - 3rd Regiment PA Heavy Artillery, George B. - 145 Regiment PA Infantry, Richard L. - 111th Regiment PA Infantry).

Author: Richard Lethbridge Maynard (son)

RIchard Lethbridge Maynard (see docketing on rear) was a member of Company C, 111th Regiment PA Infantry.  Richard was wounded May 25, 1864 in Dallas, GA, but mustered out with his unit in July, 1865.  At the time of this letter, the unit would have been part of the occupation of Atlanta (Sept 2-November 16, 1864), however, being wounded in May it is unclear if Richard would have been with his unit at that time.
