Embossed Error - Murdock

This embossed corner card that was accidentally stamped upside down and then re-stamped correctly.  It was used by a soldier in the 15th Ohio Infantry to write to his wife just prior to participating in Sherman's March to the Sea.

Usage Location: Chattanooga, TN

Recipient: Louise (Griffith) Murdock

Louisa (Griffith) Murdock was born December 8, 1839 and died December 22, 1989.  She and George had two children, Ina E. Murdock (b. 1866) and Allen R. Murdock (b. 1873).


Author: likely her husband George W. Murdock

George W. Murdock was a member of the 15th Ohio Infantry, Company G (1 Sep 1862 - 10 Jun 1865).  His unit is listed as being at Cleveland, TN, at the time of this letter.  They participated in numerous battles including Shiloh, Chickamaugua and Sherman's March to the Sea. He was born February 11, 1838.
