In the 1860's, there were two Henry Winchells in the Belle Isle area of New York. This is most likely written to the oldest one, married to Thankful Winchell, who was born in 1805 and had multiple children who may have served in the Union Army. This Henry Winchell also had a son named Henry who died in 1860.
The other Henry Winchell from a different family was born in 1844 and joined Company B of the 1st Regiment NY Light Artillery in August of 1864, serving until May of 1865.
